Deathspell
This is my first novel. First novels are assumed
to be autobiographical, but the people in Deathspell all
sprang from my imagination and bear no resemblance to anyone
I know, I'm relieved to say. And how I enjoyed writing really
nasty characters!
Deathspell is the story of Tess, a ten-year-old
whose mother has recently remarried. They are living in
a large house on a hill overlooking Oxford with Tess's three
loutish step-brothers and unlovable step-father, Malcolm.
Unable to improve her present life, Tess plans to take her
mother and sister back to the past, but to do so she must
first make Malcolm and the boys disappear. And it is her
dead father, Gerard, who will help her.
Mike Snaith in the Sunday Express wrote: 'Like
the rural idyll masking the children's deadly games, nothing
in this quietly crafted but disturbing thriller is what
it seems.'
